The Strapcap - KAVU's most famous design - was the hat that started it all. It was originally designed by founder Barry Barr in 1991 after Barry lost a hat in the sea one too many times while working as a commercial fisherman because it blew off his head. Taking matters into his own hands, Barry combined durable fabric with a strip of nylon webbing to create a functional hat that sits snugly on his head. More than 30 years later, the cap has become a true outdoor classic, loved by everyone from anglers to mountaineers - and is still made in the same way, in the same factory and by the same family as it was all those years ago.
