FNC-17 began Field Notes' fifth year of quarterly issues. In that time they have explored a variety of papers, colors and printing techniques, but with this new Expedition Edition, for the first time, Field Notes has actually expanded the type of paper they use for their notebooks.

Aesthetically, you'll find a design that has a lot to offer: the front in "Antarctic Survey Orange" and the back in "Polar Night Black" with a subtle lacquer effect depicting a topographical map of Antarctica. The inside is printed with the popular dot graphic paper in light gray.

But the real innovation is the paper. It might not even be fair to call it paper. The entire book is printed on Yupo Synthetic paper, an amazingly tear-resistant and waterproof paper extruded from polypropylene granules in Chesapeake, Virginia.
